Pelicans Sighted on Lake Macatawa

For the last several years, American White Pelicans have been seen on Lake Macatawa. They have been migrating up to Canada east of their normal route. People have reported seeing over 18 of the big birds. Merle Ringwald of Eldean Shipyard took these pictures Monday, April 21 of the pelicans wading on the sandbar in Lake Mac. This is a real treat for those who have seen them.

Eagles on Lake Mac

Bald eagles are now a part of the Lake Macatawa scene. There were many sightings of them on the ice in 2007, but we didn't see them on the ice as much this past winter on our side of the lake. We do see them flying about though.  See video of the eagles in the winter of 2007.

Swans

When the ice is frozen on the small ponds and lakes, the swans will visit on Lake Mac when it is not fully frozen or the Eldean Marina bubblers create some open water. They are very welcomed visitors.
